Education Pays, Recent Data from the U.S. Census
New released data from the 2007 Current Population Survey’s Annual Social and Economic Supplement, which is conducted in February, March and April at about 100,000 addresses nationwide:
* Adults with advanced degrees earn four times more (average $82,320) than those with less than a high school diploma (average $20,873).
* Last year, 86 percent of adults 25 and older said they at least completed high school, while 29 percent said they had at least a bachelor's degree.
* Breakdown by race having a bachelor's degree: 52 percent of Asians; 32 percent of non-Hispanic whites; 19 percent of blacks; and 13 percent of Hispanics.
* Professionals 18 years or older with a bachelor's degree earned an average of nearly $57,000 in 2006, while those with a high school diploma earned an average of more than $31,000.
* Average pay for non-Hispanic whites who at least graduated from high school was nearly $33,000; more than $29,000 for Asians; more than $26,000 for blacks; and more than $27,500 for Hispanic.
* Average pay for non-Hispanic whites who had advanced degrees was nearly $84,000; more than $88,400 for Asians; nearly $65,000 for blacks; and more than $70,400 for Hispanics.
