Volunteers Needed! Help out in your community!
Volunteers are needed for the 2006 tax season! The Tax Counseling Project, a program of the Center for Economic Progress is a nonprofit organization and operates 35 free tax preparation sites for low-income Illinois families & individuals. Last year alone, volunteers prepared over 25,000 returns, bringing back $35 million to our hard-working families and communities, making the Project the nation's largest community-based free tax preparation program for low-income families.
We provide a free 9-hour tax training so no previous tax experience is required. We are especially in need of bilingual, Spanish-speaking volunteers in order to better serve our Latino families. Volunteers choose which site/day/time is most convenient for them (all sites are open on various weeknights and Saturdays). We ask volunteers to come in to a site ideally once/week; sites open January 28th, 2006 and will close after April 15, 2006. Trainings are offered throughout January 2006 and again, volunteers choose which 2 classes are most convenient for them to attend.
