Blatant Racism
I am a Brasilian-Puerto Rican woman who holds two masters degrees and a presently completing a specialist degree in educational administration and community leadership.
I HAVE ONE QUESTION: WHY ARE WE BEING OVERLOOKED?
I am an articulate well-educated woman with excellent people and leadership skills who abides by policy and has done more that most that have elevated?
I AM IN SEARCH OF A POSTION THAT CAN UTILIZE MY SKILLS AND APPRECIATE MY INTELLIGENCE AND NOT INVOLVE BIASES.
Thanks you

Marena dear
I only know you through your submission above, and I must be frank and tell you that although recism do exist, there are people whose skills defy racism.
Look carefully at your submssion and see some very small but damaging errors contained therein:
1. My first reaction is that you are full of your achievement of two masters degress, but the truth is that certificates or degress don't get you jobs, but skills do because first impression makes or mars any chances of appointment.
2. I detected some carelessness in your submission in the following uncut sentences:
(a)"holds two masters degrees and a presently completing a specialist degree." If you have been writing "a" as "are" then that could be one of the problems you have had with would be employers.
(b)"I am an articulate well-educated woman with excellent people and leadership skills who abides by policy and has done more that most that have elevated?" This sentence contains fatal gramatical error - "and has done more that most that have elevated?" What sense does that make to anyone?
One of the contributors to you submssion asked if your were sure that your problem is really racism, and I ask: Are you sure that the same errors I have pointed out here are not found in most of your correspondence with your prospective employers?
My advice is that you take it easy so that you can become more articulate than your submission here potrays.

In response to: Blatant Racism
To the Brasilian-Puerto Rican woman who holds the two masters, I can relate to your circumstance. I am a graduate and employee at Harvard University. I have completed a degree at the Harvard Extension School and I also have an associate degree from SDCC in California. I am an honorably discharged veteran and I am an honest, and fair person. I am a hard worker and a man of a good nature. I have more awareness and education then a lot of my co-workers, but when it comes a time for promotion or recognition, it seems I am the one left out. I sincerely believe that this is because the powers that be are aware of our intelligents and work ethics and they are somewhat intimidated by these qualities. (ahh good ole human nature stealing from the progress of a valid productive society)
This is totally frustrating. I have in meetings, advocated to the university to set up a program where people of all walks of life can equally compete for advancement, but it seems they really are not concerned so much for others as they are concerned about themselves. So I take a step back and enjoy what I have at this point in my life, and I can't honestly complain.
I have learned a lot by going to school and I am a better person for it. I know my education will (it probably already has) benefit me in the future. I just let things be and try. I keep trying and thanking God for what I have and for who I am. Things will work out. Believe, and it will be so. It's like magic.
My suggestion is: Since things are changing and I believe that things will be better some day soon for everyone, be patient and understand that you receive more then you know when you do what is right and what will help you better fit into the system that exist around you.
At times it will get tedius but maybe it will prompt you to go out and start up a business of your own.
This is part of what we all have to do. We should treat everyone fairly no matter who they might be or what they may have done, and then (in this life time)you will be rewarded in Justice one day. Don't loose your integrity or anything that is more important to you then the prestige and money you seem to deserve. You are a hard worker and two Masters are very impressive and supports this assumption. One day someone will notice this and you will be on your way. We all get what we deserve.
So bearing this in mind, tread gracefully.
Don't give in, You will succeed!!!

How is expressed?
HI Marena,
How do you know that racism is the issue? Is the problem in your actual job or are you looking and not getting any offer?
If the problem is where you work, you probably have to leave the company and just go for new horizons.
But, can't it be something else? Racism still exists for sure, but not everywhere. If you have tried to get a job in a lot of places, maybe the issue is not racism but something you may be doing wrong in your presentation. Sometimes we assume the problem is outside while we overlook what we are doing wrong....
What makes you so sure that the issue is just racism?
I agree with you. I am
I agree with you. I am discussing a teaching position which I have attempted to enter a leadership position for three years. I have been on every committee, enrolled in a 3-year leadership academy, and my principal stated "You would fit better on the South Side of town." Need I tell you who resides on the south side of town? When I reported this blatant racist statementto HR, I was informed that I live in the south now-----Racism or not?
You are a witness....
I am just being honest, I know that this issue is important to you, but please look at your situation through another perspective.
"life is what happens to you while you are out making other plans"
-John Lennon (note: this quote might not be verbatim)
Sounds like to me, that the south side may possibly need you more then the north does. You have been involved in a lot trying to pursue your dream. You see.. this is part of the journey, the history, the magnificent story of your life. Sometimes we have to cherish the hardships and unfairness, one day they will fulfill us.
One day you will meet someone who is on the verge of giving in... (he or she may be from the south side) and you will help like no one can. Because you are a witness and you have seen the side where they direct you to the other side of town.
You will, I think receive more then you want and you will realize one day that all the work you do towards your objective today, will benefit something more enlightening then you had presumed in the first place. You will be so rounded and ready to conquer anything, any obstacle will be like nothing because you have been there and you are a witness.
Then you will be filled with more ambition and faith then you ever thought you could possess. And Life will be great and you will have only....
-God to thank.
