college education for Hispanics
Does anyone feel that many bright, young Hispanics are not able to go to college because of their financial situation? I see too many families that do not know how to apply for federal financial aid or private scholarships or what schools give out the best financial aid packages.

hispanic education
I am 21 years old and live in houston, tx. I am worried about the young generation of hispanics. I see more and more hispanics graduating highschool and just looking for a job that will settle there basic needs. They are just getting by, and college seems almost impossible to them. Like me, some students just barely-miss qualifying for financial aid. Right now i can afford to go to community college, but soon i will be transferring to a 4 year University. I took matters in my own hand and started a business which will probabally make me enough money to get out of community college, but what about my friends. Most of them are hispanic and they are taking roofing jobs, or working for call centers. None of them have plans to be there own boss, or get a degree. They tell me that they are not like me, but what does that mean. I like this organization because it helps hispanics try to realize there potentital. Unfortunately some people never find that momentum.

Robert dear
What you represent is the undying spirit of the successful. Most great men are usually self made and their stories are similar to yours.
I salute your courage and forsight and wish that you be an encouragement to your peers. Talk to them honestly without pride and you will guide some right.

Whats happening now
Currently i am attending the University of Houston, and have so far hired many of my friends. I have gotten a few to go back to school by working for me during the weekends. I just want to thank nshp for bringing resources such as this site that help the hispanic community.

Excellent Attitude!
Robert,
What a great attitude you have. At 21 you have everything you need to succeed: A great attitude, a goal, and a willingness to take ACTION to accomplish that goal.
Robert, you understood that if you were going to graduate from college, you were going to have to do something about it, and you did! You looked ahead, planned, and you took action!
Believe it or not, you are an inspiration to your friends, family, and other Hispanics. Have you thought about becoming a mentor to younger Hispanics? You would be an excellent mentor. Your attitude, your desire to make it through college, and your drive to make it happen, would be a great example for younger Hispanics to see.
Thank you for realizing your potential.
I will see you at the TOP!

You are right
That is what we need organizations like this....to give information, as there are ways to get financial aid, but the info needs to be spread. That is why all of use we should post as much information as we can on the subject.
100% With You
I will also add that children in underprivileged areas are discouraged from applying to 4 year schools or not encouraged enough. I am a Latina that grew up in a very privileged area. My school was mostly wealthy caucasian and we had a 98% four year college turn out. When you go to less economically advantaged areas I find students are not encouraged...Why? Where's the hope?
