I think many health problems in the Latino community, particularly obesity and alcoholism, stem from a culture that discourages people from processing their emotions. Instead, people hold in their feelings which in the long run causes overeating, alcoholism, violence, or anything else that promises to numb the pain and provide an escape. I also think the Catholic Church instills shame in people keeping them "in their place" and under control. Furthermore, too many Latinos think that you can pray your problems away or that "fate" will determine the course of life. That kind of nonsensical thinking paralyzes people.
I believe that many of the problems in the Latino community are cultural. The Spanish and the Catholic Church are colonizers. The faster we discard the aspects of our culture which shackle us instead of serve us, the healthier we will be, both physically and mentally.

If your children or a family member is in an a mental health institution and being abused help them. Contact the DOJ. They create diabetes and other diseased. they create illnesses. Psychiatric Drugging of Children
In spite of all of the problems and obstacles (HOOPS) they have made us jump through I do believe that our leaders will have to realize they also make grave mistakes. At the expense of our most vulnerable citizens. Our Children. They have a right to be children. We grew up. I used to work at the Ambassador Hotel where Robert Kennedy was killed, soon after John Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Junior were killed. I saw two L.A. Riots. My Dad was a baliff on the La Bionca/Sharon Tate (Charles Manson Killings). They still don't want to acknowledge the similar affects of LSD and these psychiatric drugs. Please see Drug Awarenes.Org she explains this in detail about how serotonin works. How these drugs affect serotonin. And what happens. This is DOCTOR INDUCED DRUG ADDICTION. She indicated statistically that there exists more diabetes, fibromyalgia, and ashma since these drugs have been on the market. There is more information on the possible side effects on the internet on these drugs that on the inserts they give patients when they are released from a facility. For example, GEODON can cause fever, Fever in combination with certain medications can be deadly. Yet the doctors perscribe them anyway. I don't believe they even read the inserts or even read about the side effects on the computer. Some drugs that ARE MANUFACTURED OVER SEAS MAY LACK AN INGREDIENT Does our goverment tell us this? They sell the drugs to other countries then the other countries sell them back on the internet. The NEW DRUG TRAFFICKING the government can't keep up with. Since they know how addicted this country is to drugs they could easily lace the pills with what ever. I heared on Coast to Coast that there is Prozac in the water in the U.K. They don't want their children to be put on these dangerous drugs. Dr. Anne Blake Tracy indicated on the Barbara Simpson Show that mother's that are on Prozac and breast feeding find that the babies have rectal bleeding. What a nightmare. I have a friend who studied acupuncture in China, she has a clinic in Hollywood. She helps women withraw from these drugs befor they conceive. Para servirles. Emilia.

MindFreedom Coalition held protests at Metropolitan State Hospital in 1998. some information was not included in the report. A staff member sexual abused my son, they allow patients to be sexually active, women get pregnant, and get abortions while being patients at the hospital. They finally provide
prophalactic for the patients. The over medicate them, put them in restraints simultaneously. Chemical and physical restraints, and abuse patients by calling the hospital police etc. I heared someone committed suicide soon after the DOJ investigation. It's on the internet. Also, I heared a girl hung herself at Charter Behavioral Health. The truth doesn't set you free. IT GETS YOUR ----- KICKED. They even tamper with the public phones so that you cannot speak to a patient. Suzanne Shell is a writer. She has to go to court because the accuse her of practising law without a license. She wrote the book Profane-Justice and the organization is called Profane - Justice.org. Better to be well informed. My friend who worked for the missle base and was working for Pinkerton Security at the time. I asked them for a letter stating that he was working at that time waiting for his vacation check. Pinkerton stated that they needed a court order. Then closed the Sacramento office. The main office is in Torrance, CA. The CHILDREN"S SYSTEM OF CARE AUBURN OFFICE stated that they alsways take children from the Folsom Lake facility CAMPGROUNDS. There is criminal activity and corruption on all levels of our society. They are supposed to work for the people. Park Rangers and these people telling the Park Rangers what to do. They said the children were dirty, How could the Judge allow this. Campground facilities are protected by ADA Americans with Disabilities Act also because they have the blue signs which indicated the shower and rest room facilities are accessible to the handicapped and the disabled. Our belongings were in a storage, because we lost our place my daughter left without helping with the bills. My friend's wife had died and I had helped take care of her uncle who was on oxygen and he left to live with his ex-girlfriend. Everything was in storage. Including my youngest son's BLANKET from when he was a little boy. To go there, and see all of these memories in a storage... the remains of a familiy we prayed for them to suffer like we have each and everyone of them. Then 911 happened. They told me send post cards to your youngest son nothing else. We had already made arrangements to return to LA and the Access workers went to LA and met my youngest son's father. He was in bandages because he got into an altercation with the police, they broke one of his ribs. He was defending his daughter against a child molester. The child molester went to prison, and his daughter's mother got a restraining order on my son's father. I told the workers this, and they still did not make reasonable eforts to reunite me with my son. They released the other boy to me with tons of pills and no money. They did spen $2,000.00. While he was at the Group Home. They want to make sure they see their doctors, and take their medications.
Now that the FDA Advisory Committee Hearings have taken place any of the patients that have had to be poisoned by these drugs and suffered adverse reactions, and the kid's that have had outbursts or worse should be compensated for enduring this cruelty, and endangerment.

My children and I should be compensated for pain and suffering that Placer County has inflicted upon us and other families. Please join me in reminding the Senator that enough is enough. My son has suffered beyond human endurance over medicating, injections, restrainst, separation from family, released with no money but plenty of pills. Set up to fail. We need to be compensated monetarily because I notified Washington DC and then San Francisco, the Federral Govvernment. The Federal government then requested a Dept. of Jjustice investigation. Since then thhere was an article in the New York times National Edition, September 2003. And I haven't seen not one penny, but the foster parents for my other son recieve $4,000.00 perr month. What will he do when he reaches 18. Special education that is a ripoff. How can you educate childdren on multiple drugs. They are too out of it. And if you happen to be Hispanic you will not be invited to get on a computer because.....

The incremental (miniscule) amounts of these drugs to be wiithdddrawn from these victimms systems. The closing of the ffacilities is not the answer. The change of direction is.. Please follow up on the FDA AAdvisoory Committee Hearings on warning labels. This will change the way the Juvenile Justice system is looked upon. Also how the prisoners are looked upon. There are prisons across the U.S. that have no prisoners in them. Sounds like futere concentration camps. Dr. Harowitz tries to explain what's up with that! Why haven't these counties been sanctioned for sending these children, adults,(young adults to these facilities that over medicate and abuse patients. People from my generation should acknowledge the similarities between hellucinations on street drugs and the effcts from the ingestion of Doctor induced. The FDA has a voluntary reporting which should be a MANDATORY reporting sysstem. They have been misleading the public. We should hold them accountable. I was just a mom on AFDC (now TANF) and food stamps. I feel sorry for the wealthy people whos bank accounts get wiped out trying to get their children back. They are paying the foster family $4000.00 per month for my youngest son. And are keeping my older son in retaliation for my work.
This is worse than the protests in the 1960's. Those of you who are old enough to remember a song called "Ohio". Ohio State University where sodierrs were cutting us down. One of the liyric's was HOW CAN YOU RUN WHEN YOU KNOW? Well, now you know. I don't wish for any other parent or child to have to go through the NIGHTMARE we and other families have had to endure. Reasonable Efforts they don't comply with. They do comply with more money from the Federal Government and the State to send our kids to get abused from god knows whoever. My youngest sons grandmoother used to work for the producer's of MTV and lost her job because her sister called to leave a message that my oldest son had attempted suicide on one of these insane medications..The Wolfman could't help it. Senator Martha Escutia should make sure they investigate the Sacramento County 1999 - 2001 Kaiser integration into services with MEDI-CAL. They said I did't seek medical care for my son. They took him to Charter Behavioral Health Roseville, CA. Where they shot him up with a drug called Inapsine. They took the CA Juvenile Law Books out of So Lake Tahoe Law library and replaced them Nevada Juvenile Law books. Then they relocated all of the law books to PLACERVILLE, CA .
I can remember ONE THING THAT STANDS OUT THE MOST ABRUPT DISCONTINUANCE IS AGAINST THE LAW! I even sent an e-mail to the ABA. There are lawsuits out there against the PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES. They use the excuse, HOW MANY DRUGS HAS YOU SON BEEN ON? They nneed too attend medical school. The SSRI pie that each pharmaceutical company gets a slice of has a diferrent name for their commpanies drugs. Also HALF LIFE means the amount of time a drug remanis in the system. Thhey HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF THIS. This is how they CREATED THE DSM. DIAGNOSTIC STATISTICAL MANUAL. And that ain't SALUD. I saw it happen time and time again with my son. I need lawsuit money to get the real help I need.. The real attorney I need.. This computer is not working properly. More money is needed for the children of Lake Tahoe for free ice skating. NNO TOURISTS NO INCOME . They need more programs that are free. More food at Christmas Cheer. And help for the families who stay here and work for the tourists when they are in town.. Housing is so much needed. Especially wiith the bears and coyotes and wolves running around. Thank God . Everyone knows who I am by now . Since we are up against the Pharma/Medical Industry as far as the SSRI's and other psychiatric DRUGS (not medications) we have the resposibility to educate ourselves on every level, because the best interests of Pharma and the counties who receive Federal and State funding to drug some of our children. My son was sent to Metropolitan Hospital Norwalk, CA. One report went Gov. Gray Davis, the another to
Gov. Arnold Schwarzennegar, and also a report to Senator Martha Escutia 30th District where the hospital is located. When that county (
Placer)found out that they (one Access or CPS worker and two park rangers) went into McDonalds and took my son from someone who has worked at a missile base and is bondable for several million dollars
(Fidelity Bond) and has been in law enforcement for 40 years, they dropped a $28,000.00 child support fee. My youngest son was 10 at the time. Now he is 14 they put him on the Psych drugs also. They commited perjury in court and said I did not seek medical care for my son. The oldest boy was on a drug called Respiradol. He open handedly slapped me and hit his younger brother. When he hit me he said THERE ARE NO CHILDREN. They took my son to Charter Behavioral Health. And shot him up with Inapsine. An injection they use to control blood pressure. Another thing, Aetna Insurance is particular as to what medications a
person is on before providing services. Could it be they know more than the general public? They had my oldest son in the receiving home while he was having an adverse reaction to a medication. From there they took my oldest son to Sutter Auburn Faith. When he returned to the receiving home from the hospital he wanted to be left alone. He had threaten to commit suicide in front of all of those children including my youngest son. They traumatize the children by taking them away from their families. And drug them into compliance. Some of them are place on the INTERNET FREE FOR ALL. So that God only knows how many pediphiles can see them. Tommy Thompson is now going to make sure the labels and bracelets have matching bar code numbers. I think Tommy Thompson needs an invitation to the FDA Advisory Commitee Hearing Meetings on the suicide WARNINGS on the labels.
We have to educate ourselves on all levels. Legally, and medically and
find the resources out there that are available to people with disabilities. If they use our children as guinea pigs they should compensate them monitarily for the present, past, and future pain and suffering. Dr. Anne Blake Tracy from Drug Awareness.org was on the Barbara Simpson Show Coast to Coast AM. One of the things she spoke of is how they perscribe these drugs to prenant and nursing women. Babies are born addicted and also have rectal bleeding. So women who are considering conceiving should be titrated off of these medications gradually also. Please pass this information along. future of Latino Health
What's the question? Latino's are human and should be treated like one. Treat the person not the disease. Isn't that right? I think ONE of the issues is relating to latino patients. We need more bilingual latino doctors to relate, understand and communicate with latino's in need of healthcare.

There are translational capabilities on the internet. There is BABEL FISH and possible others. More written information should be available also in Spanish and other languages.
Access to Health Care by Latinos
Many of the disparities seen in the health care for various minority groups are being introduced and the media quickly picks it up. But the disparity is self-imposed in the Latin community by the way health care is viewed by some, if not many.
Getting to the doctor is no problem, and usually it is by means of an ambulance after a panic attack, or by a family member who becomes worried about someone's health.
Hispanics rely on "ol wive's tales" and home remedies...followed by the "expert advice" of friends or relatives who are not medical professionals, reenforcing the old tale.
Once we are seen by the doctor...an antibiotic for a cold, is ususally expected...knowing well that it won't work. However..no antibiotic? Bad doctor.
With the new approach to Home based health care, now we have a better opportunity to address those ol tales and get on with reeducating a group of people who are faithful to their ancestors and their medical cures.
I am a Marketing Consultant for a Home Health Agency, a former ER Nurse in "ghetto" hospitals and I travel all over Latin America teaching...and learning what culture means.

HIV/AIDS
I'd like to thank Dr.Beltran for bringing up the issue of health disparities. I have worked in the field of HIV/AIDS for over 14 years. The numbers are staggering as they relate to our communities in the US. The five leading states reporting AIDS cases are: New York, California, Florida, Texas and New Jersey respectively. These 5 states all have very large latino populations as well. On a national level, Hispanics make up approximately 19% of all AIDS reported cases, but in those states with large Hispanic populations, the percentages are much higher. Having lived and worked on Long Island, NY I have seen firsthand the disparities that our communities have faced: lack of access to healthcare, healthcare professionals that are not culturally competent, and lack of services that are culturally and linguistically appropriate. HIV prevention strategies have been used in our communities that are ineffective because they have not considered cultural norms and values that are in direct conflic the prevention messages that are given. We as a community must demand that our unique needs in the area of HIV/AIDS be addressed. I can't help but notice that we lack leadership and advocacy efforts on a national level as it relates to HIV/AIDS. This is not meant to discount the numerous Latino HIV/AIDS community based organizations and service providers across the country, but rather to question why it is the our politic leaders that are Latino have not been pressed to address this issue on a national level. On a local level, I can't tell you how many times I have been the only Hispanic individual in meeting regarding HIV/AIDS issues or the only bilingual staff person, when an agency claims to be serving all communities. We must demand from our politicians greater funding for programs that target our communities, but we also need greater involvement at a local level: we need case managers that are bilingual and prevention programs that are targeted to specific needs of a population. Our committment to our people will not come from others, we all need to raise our voices as a united community and demand that our needs be met.
Answering a question with a question
What do you think about some of the staff at Metropolitan State Hospital watching the patients have sex without prophelactics. And my son being abused by a staff member. He went in for HIV tests. Thank God he didn't get HIV but if he would have....Women get pregnant in there women get abortions. The Federal Government is paying for our children to be placed in the pits of hell. I've had it! EVERYONE NEEDS TO KNOW!
