Where the good IT jobs went?
I am an IT person and was laid off 2001 went the technology economic slow down. At present market seems to be picking up piece by piece but the pay continues dropping to the lowest levels. I see over 60% or more of pay cuts and I am wondering what happened with the good pay jobs?

My answer is nowhere. Given the economy struggle, companies relied on their existing employees to manage their internal IT needs. They also revised and optimized their roles and responsibilities, and fired or promoted as necessary. Given that companies didn't hire as before (and fired in some instances), the demand dropped lowering the salaries. With the economy in better shape, we're beginning to see a slow pickup of jobs and salaries. I read recently, that given the additional rise in overseas outsourcing, the project manager jobs have increased in salaries.
