Univison's Challenge is to Increase Revenue
Univisión Chief Executive Joe Uva, appointed nine months ago to Univisión's top job, says he's hooked on the Hispanic market. Given that Uva is an Italian-American advertising executive whose career has straddled both the buying and selling side, his appointment was widely seen as a move to ramp up revenue across Univisión's media empire.
Univisión reported third-quarter revenue of $529.1 million, up 4 percent from 2006. The company's new owners, Broadcasting Media Partners, a group of private equity investors that has taken the company private, need to pump up profits to pay down considerable debt incurred in the $13.7 billion deal. The potential to up revenues is there. Uva, has already embarked on the restructuring of the sales department with the goal of doing that. ''The Hispanic market is growing and thriving while the general market is stagnant or down in some markets,'' he says. ``I'm amazed at how powerful the Hispanic community in this country is.''
