About Dallas Fort Worth International Airport
DFW was created by the Contract and Agreement between the Cities of Dallas, Texas, and Fort Worth,
Texas (the Cities), on April 15, 1968, for the purpose of developing and operating an airport as a joint
venture between the Cities. DFW’s Board of Directors (the Board) consists of seven members
appointed by the City of Dallas and four members appointed by the City of Fort Worth and one
nonvoting member which rotates on an annual basis from the cities of Coppell, Euless, Grapevine, or
Irving.
DFW currently ranks third among the world’s busiest airports in terms of
operations and sixth in terms of passengers. Its central location is the focal point of one of the nation’s
largest intermodal hubs, connecting air, rail, and interstate highway systems. DFW’s strategic central
location, superior air service, and diverse economy are major factors in attracting business relocations to
the region and to the Metroplex being one of the fastest-growing economic regions in the country over
the past twenty years.
