MISSION
Promoting Hispanic nurses to improve the health of our communities.
PHILOSOPHY
NAHN strives to serve the nursing and healthcare delivery needs of the Hispanic community and the professional needs of Hispanic nurses. NAHN is designed and committed to work toward improvement of the quality of health and nursing care for Hispanic consumers and toward providing equal access to educational, professional, and economic opportunities for Hispanic nurses.
OBJECTIVES

To provide a forum for nurses to analyze and evaluate the healthcare needs of the Hispanic community.

To assess the safety and quality of healthcare delivery services to the Hispanic community.
To identify barriers to the delivery of health services to Hispanic consumers and recommend appropriate solutions to local, state, and federal agencies.

To develop, test, and promote culturally sensitive models of intervention that provide effective nursing care for Hispanic communities.
*
To disseminate research findings and policy perspectives related to Hispanic healthcare needs to local, state, and federal agencies in order to impact policy making and the allocation of resources.

To collaborate with, and provide assistance to, other Hispanic healthcare professionals.

To identify Hispanic nurses throughout the nation in order to monitor the size and growth of this group of healthcare professionals who may provide culturally sensitive nursing care to Hispanic consumers.

To identify barriers to quality education for Hispanic nursing students and recommend appropriate solutions to state, local, and federal agencies.
*
To work toward recruitment and retention of Hispanic students in nursing education program, in order to increase the number of bilingual and bicultural nurses who may provide culturally sensitive nursing care to li Hispanic consumers.
HISTORY
The National Association of Hispanic Nurses is the only national organization representing Latino nurses. Over the past 26 years, the association has grown to include chapters across the US, including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
NAHN is actively involved in issues affecting Hispanic nurses and the health of Hispanic communities on local, state, regional, and national levels. Through mentorship and networking, NAHN supports and develops Hispanics in nursing. NAHN strives to increase the number of Hispanics in nursing in order to expand the healthcare of Hispanics. Its annual conferences address issues important to the organization’s mission and to Hispanic nurses and the communities they serve.
