Job fairs for bilingual professionals

After completing 9 successful job fairs in 2008, NSHP is proud to announce the release of our 2009 LatPro / NSHP diversity job fair schedule! By connecting over 6,300 candidates with 308 exhibiting companies in 2008, we have strategically chosen the following locations based on employer requests and job seeker demographics for our 2009 job fair series.

If you are a company interested in exhibiting, please read the exhibitors FAQs or download the form to reserve a booth for any of these events.

It would be good to see Insurance Companies participating apart from Aflac

I find it important to monitor trends and patterns in the job market. Visiting a job fair and gathering information on potential employers helps you market yourself in a successful and professional manner. Networking and making contacts is the main purpose for visiting the job fair, if you receive an invitation for a followup interview, then that is a bonus for attending the job fair. Bottom line, it's not what you know but who you know. Meeting a recruiter is not a beneficial contact for a hook, but a look inside the company or agency. Using the recruiter's information and perspective on the job is part of your necessary homework before interviewing and pursuing the career goal and initiative.

Hello Cecilia. I noticed your comment about Aflac being the only insurance company exhibiting. I am the head of the sales team responsible for bringing these exhibitors to this job fair in NY. I wanted to let you know that we are also expecting Aetna and Travelers Insurance from the insurance industry, in addition to 40 or so other companies and associations. Hope that helps.

Today's job fair was exactly what I expected. An opportunity to polish my communication skills and learn about what opportunities are currently available. I had interesting and inspiring conversations with people from Corning and FirstEnergy. They actually listened-- and cared about what I had to say. They tried to match my skills and interests with available jobs within their respective companies rather than just tell me to apply online. Best Buy, Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Travelers Insurance among other companies were also helpful in helping me learn about other career opportunities. However, I understand that this job fair was disappointing for those people who are currently unemployed. Most companies were asking you to relocate and they would not take your resume. They would tell you to apply online. Some companies did not even have job openings at this time. For those of you, I say: "Do not give up." Try an internship or a volunteer position in your field of interest while working at any job that would pay the bills. Good luck fellow Latinos!
