Under limited supervision, this position provides technical support for the installation, repair, and preventive maintenance of personal computers and related systems including a variety of peripheral devices. Performs complex installations, upgrades, and backups of software and hardware applications. Integrate PC and server systems into aircraft while adhering to strict integration guidelines. Assist IT department with regular duties including PC preparation, desktop support, trouble calls and general support both at Hangars and RSG main site. Determines the method and procedure for troubleshooting software and hardware failures as well as identifying network problems that relate to personal computers. Exercising judgment and initiative, provides technical information, prioritizes, and determines appropriate action on request from all levels of employees and vendors. Prepares and maintains various electronic and hard copy reports and logs. May provide user training and may provide direction to less experienced technical staff.
Job Requirements
Typically requires an Associate’s degree with an emphasis in information technology, or a related discipline, along with four or more years of progressive personal computer technical experience in an Information Technology department. May substitute a certificate in information technology from a recognized organization and equivalent experience in lieu of education. Requires an in-depth knowledge of department policies and procedures, and a comprehensive understanding of relevant current personal computers, operating systems and associated peripheral equipment. Must be customer focused and demonstrate the ability: to troubleshoot complex technical situations; use judgment and initiative to resolve issues or situations and make recommendations; communicate and interface effectively with all levels of personnel, including senior management; interpret and explain complex information; and establish priorities. Must have a valid California class B driver’s license and able to work extended hours as required. Desirable Qualifications: In-depth knowledge of PC hardware rack-mounted servers and integration is very desirable. Detailed knowledge of disk and graphics subsystems, performance tuning and operating system (MS Windows XP/Server 2003) very helpful. Experience with aircraft integration, electronics and power systems also very desirable. Ability to work both as part of a multi-disciplinary team and independently. Ability to take direction and manage conflicting priorities in a very fast-paced environment.
