Prepare unmanned aircraft and ground control station (GCS) technical documentation and manuals, to include operation and maintenance manuals, software user manuals and training documentation and other ground and support equipment manuals as required. Technical writing duties include researching, documenting, and developing detailed operator procedures, maintenance procedures, troubleshooting procedures, fault isolation procedures, checklists, technical specifications, field alert bulletins, training materials, and other procedures and reports to military requirements. Be able to read, understand, and integrate technical writing source material, which comes in the form of LMI database reports, engineering drawings, software description documents, test plans, design specifications/documentation, as well as discussions with engineers, pilots, technicians, and military/civilian customers. Investigate and resolve problem areas and interface with various engineering, operations, and maintenance personnel to document the technical solution. Develop and review technical documents for content, accuracy, and format. Participate in recommending new and/or modifications to policies and procedures to improve the quality of customer deliverables and the process in which they are developed. Lead and plan all internal and contractor team efforts, and coordinate all aspects of preparing customer deliverables to meet specified deadlines. Work closely with the customer and working groups to understand requirements and customer expectations. For existing programs, provide technical and planning input for system design reviews and ILS working groups in the areas of logistics, training, supportability, maintainability, and operator and maintenance procedures. For new or emerging programs, review customer requirements and military standards, develop detailed plans, statements of work, cost estimates, proposals, and program guidance to establish the framework for contractor tasks and customer deliverables; and describe the process and engineering controls to meet customer requirements. Review and edit all project customer deliverables, and correct technical errors or perform rewrites as necessary. Utilize standard Microsoft or SGML-based writing and illustration software to develop these deliverables. Develop and present presentation materials for customer and program reviews. Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating practices and procedures.

Job Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related fields with supporting course work or experience on basic technical theory, plus 10 years work experience, or AA degree with 12 years work experience, or equivalent professional technical writing/editing experience with aircraft and related military systems may be substituted in lieu of education. Hands-on experience in aircraft flight and ground operations, maintenance, and system troubleshooting, and technical writing experience in the overseeing and development of technical manuals and training documentation for military aircraft systems. Specific experience in operations and/or maintenance of aircraft systems, such as avionics, mechanical/engines, electrical/electronic, RF, EO/IR, and weapons systems. Knowledge of military specifications for development of technical manuals and related documents. Demonstrated working knowledge of computer-based tools in the planning and production of technical documentation. Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule and coordinate work phases; determine the appropriate approach at the task or at the project level; and, provide innovative solutions to a range of complex technical writing/editing problems. Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, interpersonal skills, and possess the ability to multi-task and work independently and as part of a team, capable of representing the department and the company in customer discussions and reviews. Lead a team of experienced technical professional employees on projects. Able to work extended hours as required. Applicants must be able to obtain a security clearance. Travel is required. Desirable Qualifications: Desire a self-starter who functions with minimum supervision. Knowledge of Arbotext Epic Editor, Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, Adobe Illustrator, Visio, and other applications, including interactive manuals and desktop publishing. Military training experience a plus. Preferable experience divided between active duty military assignments in flight operations and maintenance squadrons, followed by technical writing experience as a DoD contractor and/or in the commercial aviation sector.
