Using computer-aided design (CAD) prepares or revises routine elementary detail engineering drawings. Learns standard CAD digitizing techniques and skills. Makes basic engineering computations. Completes details of major layout drawings prepared by others in accordance with standard engineering drafting practices. Under close supervision following established practices and procedures performs the following functions:
1. Studies and understands the fundamentals in the creation of neat, legible drawings.
2. Learns standard CAD digitizing techniques and skills required to perform the required tasks. These include but are not limited to creating and modifying 2D-and 3D basic model geometry, creating and changing text and dimensions.
3. Utilizes appropriate techniques and skills in the use of drafting equipment such as drafting machines, triangles, straight edge, PC tape, compass or lettering guide required to perform the required tasks.
4. Prepares routine elementary detail engineering drawings from given data such as previous drawings, layouts, detailed sketches, and standard references.
5. Revises CAD and/or hand drawn "board" drawings, working from instructions, marked prints, sketches, change notices, etc. prepared by others.
6. Repairs or redraws damaged drawings, including redimensioning and simple tolerancing.
7. Makes simple decisions but refers most questions to more experienced personnel.
8. Verifies own completed work, checking dimensions, materials to be used, and quantities.
9. Creates tracing or copy drawings, darkening lines, lettering, makes copies using reproduction equipment, and other routine drafting assignments.
10. Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
Job Requirements
High School diploma or GED. Requires completion of the equivalent of two years high school mechanical or electrical drawing and minimum 1 year experience as an entry level drafter. Requires knowledge of algebra, geometry, or trigonometry, as might be acquired through second year of high school and at least the equivalent of one year high school mechanical or electrical drawing. Analytical ability required to perform mathematical calculations using algebra and trigonometry. Must be detail oriented to prepare routine engineering detail drawings and maintain records within defined procedures and practices. Knowledge of or ability to learn computer operations and software relevant to drafting tasks. Work is reviewed for accuracy frequently under close supervision.
