Job Description

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:#5470

Participate in the production of Inertial Confinement Fusion and High Energy Density targets.

Conduct experiments to improve manufacturing, and develop techniques to produce and characterize targets at acceptable costs.

Work with target designers and physicists at GA and at the national labs to understand product requirements; plan programs and perform research and development of new processes to fabricate first-of-a-kind target components.

Working with chemists and material scientists, demonstrate in the laboratory processes meeting requirements.

Perform laboratory R&D as needed, and supervise others as required.

Develop flowsheets, layouts, and equipment designs for target fabrication needs.

Present results and designs at project meetings, review, and conferences.

Publish work in peer-reviewed journals.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

PhD or MS plus 4-10 years progressive experience in process development.

Capable of using microscopes and of doing manipulation of minute objects.

Demonstrated ability to develop program plans and detailed experimental programs.

Ability to work with processes from basic R&D in the laboratory to design of laboratory equipment.

Ability to prepare high quality written reports and oral presentations.

Requires a motivated person who works well in a dynamic team-oriented environment.

Portions of this work may be for a DOE defense programs (DP)
project and US citizenship is required.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Familiar with optical characterization techniques including interferometry.

Ability to obtain DOE security clearance is highly desirable.
