Regional Manager, Environmental Health & Safety
Job Description
General Summary
The regional EHS Manager directs the implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive environmental, health and safety management system for the assigned operations. The position provides leadership and technical expertise to obtain company-wide excellence in environmental, health, and safety through a shared services concept. Ensures compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations. Reports directly to the Global Vice President of Environmental, Health, Safety and Security and indirectly to the site management teams.
Key Work Performed
Implements and maintains comprehensive management systems in support of the company EHS policies. Provides input to the business units in identifying and tracking appropriate KPI's and assessing site performance. Ensures compliance with all company EHS policies and regulatory requirements and works closely with the Supply Chain Directors, Plant Managers and associates at all levels to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
Provides guidance to assigned units by participating in capital project reviews consistent with the level of EHS expertise needed. Works with facilities to assist with continuous improvement initiatives including addressing ergonomic issues. Facilitates the sharing of programs, procedures, tools, and successfully demonstrated practices within the EHS community. Performs all field investigations for events as defined by the incident investigation manual. Provides leadership and guidance to individual plant safety committees.
Maintains all environmental permits at the sites. Ensures the timely submission of applications for renewal, modification, and/or change to the site's environmental permits. Works closely with the facilities to determine the need for outside environmental consultants. Coordinates health and industrial hygiene monitoring activities.
Acts as a liaison between the facilities, workers compensation carrier (or temporary agency, where applicable) and Office of Disability Management to aggressively manage outstanding workers compensation cases.
Develops effective working relationships with EHS community and regulatory agencies as appropriate. Participates in professional industry groups to further develop individual capabilities and to benchmark activities throughout the industry. Keeps abreast of all current and pending EHS regulations.
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements
A. Education:
BS/BA in a related technical, scientific, or engineering discipline required.
Appropriate certifications desired.
B. Experience:
Minimum of seven years of EHS experience in manufacturing, agriculture, or related field; with increasing responsibilities.
Proven experience in leading change and implementing new ideas and concepts.
Track record of driving results through fact-based analysis and business process implementation.
Demonstrated ability to build lasting relationships and to gain cross-functional alignment for execution.
Proven ability to drive results working through others at various levels within the organization.
C. Knowledge:
Working knowledge of applicable environmental, health and safety regulations.
Working knowledge of workers compensation laws.
Working knowledge of ergonomics, including reducing ergonomic issues.
Knowledge of facilities and operational procedures.
