Duties:
Reporting to the Director of the Workforce Services Division, the Director of Training & Performance Management will coordinate the training needs for MassDEP. This position will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the Performance Management Unit including supervision of one part time employee, coordinating the enrollment of DEP staff in training courses offered by outside agencies such as HRD , EPA, Red Cross, and OSHA, act as the agency’s primary contact with the Human Resources Division on all training matters and work with Senior Staff and training coordinators in each major organizational unit within MassDEP to identify and implement training needs of the agency. This is an important strategic position, which should also be able to deliver training personally on certain topics. Over time, the staff directly or indirectly reporting to this position will grow, so the candidate must have management skills and the ability to interact effectively with all operational and senior levels of the agency. This position will also manage performance of agency staff via the ACES and EPRS annual review processes and will link these appraisals to developmental opportunities and management solutions.


Qualifications:
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must have at least (A) five years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative, supervisory or managerial experience in business administration, business management, or public administration and (B) of which at least four years must have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. A Master's or higher degree with a major in business administration, management, public administration, industrial engineering, industrial psychology, or hospital administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.*

*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to develop new training curriculums to meet MassDEP’s specific needs

Ability to conduct stand up training session

Experience in direct and indirect supervision

Knowledge in mandatory training topics such as Sexual Harassment Prevention, Domestic and Workplace Violence and Diversity

Knowledge in the statewide performance management systems, ACES and EPRS.

Knowledge in Brainshark or similar software platform

Negotiation experience with training vendors

Knowledge in career coaching

Knowledge of Alternative Dispute Resolution
