National Hispanic Health Foundation Distributes $24,000 in Scholarships

Nine health professional students from California will win $5,000 and $2,000 scholarships from the National Hispanic Health Foundation (NHHF). NHHF is a non-profit Organization affiliated with the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University.

Hispanic Undergraduates Applicants Needed for the 2008 Ford Motor Company Leadership Program

The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) invites Hispanic undergraduate students from across the country to apply for the 2008 Ford Motor Company CHLI Leadership Program. Applications can be downloaded from the CHLI website at http://www.chli.org. Eight undergraduate students will be selected to become part of this intensive six-week internship program in Washington, DC. The interns will be placed in congressional offices, federal agencies or public policy organizations.

The Case Foundation is launching a pilot grants program that could turn community dreams into reality.

The Make It Your Own Awards ™ , a new initiative from the Case Foundation, that launched today, June 26, 2007, is about giving grants, tools, and recognition to people who are coming together to discuss what matters, form solutions, and take action.

Twenty semi-finalists will each receive $10,000 grants to start bringing their ideas to life. Four final grant recipients will then be chosen by the public using an online voting system. These finalists will each be awarded an additional $25,000 grant.

20.5 Million in Grants Awarded Under Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program

U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings today announced the award of 33 new grants totaling more than $20.5 million that will directly benefit Hispanic-serving institutions of higher education.

"Under No Child Left Behind, Hispanic students' scores have risen to all-time highs. Having seen the positive impact at the grade school level, we must continue to promote that kind of success in our institutes of higher education," said Secretary Spellings. "By giving colleges and universities the ability to improve and facilitate their Hispanic education efforts, these students will graduate better equipped to succeed in both the workforce and in life."

U.S. Department of Labor Awards $4.9 Million in Grants to Improve English Language Skills in the Workplace

WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The U.S. Department of Labor today announced five grants totaling more than $4.9 million to improve English language skills in the workplace. The grants will train approximately 4,400 individuals in California, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York and Texas.

The Hispanic College Fund to Award $2 Million in Scholarships

Key Grants $100,000 to Hispanic Scholarship Fund

CLEVELAND – Upon receiving a $100,000 donation from the Key Foundation, Cuyahoga Community College today announced its intent to further increase the number of Hispanic students attending the College. Latest U.S. Census figures indicate that the Hispanic population of Cuyahoga County is 3.8 percent. For the College’s recently completed fall semester, 881 students, 3.5 percent of the 25,358 fall semester students enrolled, identified themselves as being Hispanic.

UTMB gets grant for Hispanic students

GALVESTON, TX — Building upon its role as a leader in minority student recruitment and retention, the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston has received a $3.2 million grant that will continue to support academic, clinical and mentoring programs for Hispanic high school, college and medical school students and faculty.

The grant from the Health Research Service Administration will sponsor various UTMB programs through the Hispanic Center of Excellence to encourage and prepare Hispanic students aspiring toward careers in medicine.

UTMB officials have maintained a longstanding partnership with the Hispanic Center of Excellence. Since 1992, the program has contributed funds that have helped UTMB to continue diversifying its student population.

10 Latino Students Win National Hispanic Health Foundation Scholarships in Health Professions

Florida hospital seeks Puerto Rico interns for Hispanic patients

AP - Medical students at the University of Puerto Rico will serve internships at an Orlando hospital as part of an agreement to attract personnel who speak Spanish and understand the culture of a growing Hispanic population in central Florida. "We need people who understand our population," said Dr. Kris Gray, director of Florida Hospital's family medicine residency program.
