New immigrants getting more jobs
A study from the Center for Labor Market Studies at Northeastern University in Boston, found that from the beginning of 2001 through the first four months of 2004, the number of new immigrants who found work in the U.S. was 2.06 million, while the number of native-born and longer-term immigrant workers declined by more than 1.3 million.

Advocacy groups trying to mobilize the Hispanic vote

Republicans and Democrats have long courted groups they see as likely voters, such as NASCAR dads and soccer moms. This year, central Pennsylvanians who are black, Latino, disabled or gay are pushing their members to vote, because they haven't always shown up at the polls.

  • Polly Baca: Burger King Corporation announced the appointment of Polly Baca to the company's Diversity Action Council (DAC). Ms. Baca, a former Colorado State Senator, is the Executive Director of the Latin American Research and Service Agency, a non-profit organization created in 1964 to address the disparity existing between the Latino community and the mainstream community.

  • Mario J. Molina: Who won the 1995 Nobel Prize in chemistry, has joined the faculty at the University of California, San Diego, as a professor in the Dept. of Chemistry and in Center for Atmospheric Sciences at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography.
