Hispanic students must learn English quickly to pass FCAT
Thousands of non-English-speaking students who arrive
in Florida's schools each year find themselves performing
well enough to pass high school classes, but struggling
to successfully complete the statewide standardized test
that every student must pass in order to graduate.
Nehemiah lands grant to help Hispanics get homes
The Nehemiah Corp. of America has received a $100,000
grant to fund the expansion of its Internet-based homeownership
and financial education program, including the development
of Spanish-language versions of its information.
Pressure to earn money keeps Hispanic dropout rates high
With pressure to work often trapping young Hispanics in a cycle of low-skilled, low-paying jobs, some school systems are instituting programs and services to help address difficulties faced by Hispanic students.
