How You can Help the Victims of Katrina
Hurricane Katrina completely devastated a large part of the Gulf Coast in what could become the most destructive storm in U.S. history. Victims are in need of immediate medical care, food and water, and thousands will need temporary housing for months. You can help those affected by the storm by donating to one of the aid organizations found on this list.

PBS to Offer Special Programming for Hispanic Heritage Month
From September 15 through October 15, PBS will air a variety of new and encore presentations that celebrate the diversity of the Latino community and explore its history and culture. Topics range from an educator who teaches Latin American children using Shakespeare to an exploration of New York's hip-hop culture.

Hispanic immigrants have economic impact on South Carolina
A University of South Carolina study shows Hispanic immigrants could add more than $2 billion to the state's economy. While that's a sliver of the dollars spent in the state every year, researchers and Hispanic advocates say it's significant enough for businesses and government to take notice.

Groups urge Hispanic youths to stay away from military enlistment
Anti-war activists in Los Angeles have launched a national campaign that claims military recruiters are unfairly targeting minorities at high schools. An organizer with Coalition Against Militarism in Our Schools says too many poor, Hispanic youths have died in the war in Iraq.

  • Alfred Ramirez has been appointed as Interim Executive Director for the National Association of Hispanic Publications, Inc. (NAHP). During his tenure as Interim Executive Director, Mr. Ramirez will lead a national search for new NAHP leadership to increase membership, drive sales and implement key programs.


  • Francisco Lozano has been named Sales Development Director for ImpreMedia. In this newly created position, he will be responsible for driving national advertising revenue through major corporate projects. Until recently, Lozano was National Sales Manager for La Opinión, ImpreMedia's flagship newspaper and the largest Spanish language daily in the US.


  • Eduardo Diaz, former Director of Cultural Affairs for the city of San Antonio, Texas, has been chosen as the new director of the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
