Hispanic Women in Executive Leadership Needed to Participate in Doctoral Study
Doctoral candidate Tanginika-Simone Cuascud is writing her dissertation on Hispanic women in leadership positions. She is looking for Hispanic women who have reached upper organizational levels (Directorships, VP, General Managers, CEOs, COOs, Boards, etc.) at large corporations in Texas for a survey about how their culture and upbringing impacted their career paths.

Associations Denounce Federal Official's Comments Concerning Hispanic Under-representation in the Federal Government
The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund (PRLDEF) and the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) have all condemned a statement made by an attorney at the federal Office of Personnel Management (OPM) regarding the under-representation of Hispanics in federal employment.

The battle for the Hispanic market - Mexico's Televisa Sues Univision
Mexico's Grupo Televisa SA filed another lawsuit against Univision Communications Inc., asserting its right to begin distributing its television programming to U.S. audiences over the Internet.

HIV Prevention and Latino Youth
An HIV prevention program emphasizing both abstinence and condom use may help decrease risky sexual behavior among Latino adolescents, according to a report in the August issue of the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.

  • David Gutierrez, Chief Information Officer for ING Americas and Latin America Group, was named CIO of the Year 2006 by the Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association. David was selected via a comprehensive LISTA member survey from a group of his peers in information technology.

  • Aileen M. Ugalde was named Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary to the Board of Trustees at the University of Miami. Ugalde will be the University's chief legal officer, responsible for management of all legal issues, leading a staff that includes nine attorneys and managing outside counsel. She will assume the post in September, succeeding Robert L. Blake, who will be stepping down after 12 years in this role.
