Alcorn State University has received recognition throughout the United States of America for its excellence in liberal arts, agricultural research, technology, nursing and fine arts. We also have one of the largest marching bands in the United States of America and have won numerous athletic championships in men's and women's sports. Our alumni have distinguished themselves in many professional arenas including medicine, law, government, education, business and entrepreneurship, research, entertainment, and professional athletics.

The ASU Foundation, Inc. Scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students at Alcorn State University.

SCHOLARSHIPS:
Because of the number of financial aid programs available, students should be able to find a program according to their needs. We will assist you as much as possible to meet your financial needs. The following are a number of general service and special scholarships which are available to qualified students.

I. UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS:

1.- Academic Scholarships:

Full - to be considered for a Full Scholarship the applicant must present a composite ACT score of 24 or above or its equivalence on the SAT and a 3.00 or better High School cumulative GPA on a 4.00 scale. This scholarship is renewable each year provided the student maintains a 3.50 or above cumulative average. This scholarship covers room, board, tuition, fees, and $350.00 book allowance. The recipient of this scholarship must be a first time freshman. Scholarship will not cover out-of-state fees.
Partial - to be considered for a Partial Scholarship the applicant must present a composite ACT score of 22 or 23 or its equivalence on the SAT with a 3.00 or above GPA. This scholarship is renewable each year provided the student maintains a 3.00 or above cumulative average. This scholarship covers tuition and fees and provides an additional $150.00 for books. The recipient of this scholarship must be a first time freshman. Scholarship will not cover out-of-state fees.
Community College Transfer Graduates Scholarships - to be considered for the Community College Transfer Graduate Scholarship the applicant must present an academic transcript with an overall GPA of 3.30 or above on a 4.00 scale. This full scholarship is renewable each year provided the student maintains a 3.00 or above average on a 4.00 scale. The recipient of this scholarship must have an Associate of Arts Degree. This scholarship will not cover out-of-state fees.

2.- Diversity Scholarships:

Full - same as Full Academic Scholarship, but is for non-black students only (intended to increase Caucasian enrollment).
Partial - same as Partial Academic Scholarship, but is for non-black students only (intended to increase Caucasian enrollment).

II. SERVICE SCHOLARSHIPS

Service Scholarships are available from specific programs on campus and are awarded by the specific program involved.
* Music Scholarships and Band Grants:
The university awards scholarships for students majoring in music providing they meet the criteria of the Department of Fine Arts. Band grants are awarded to students participating in marching band and meeting the criteria of the band program.
* Athletic Scholarships:
Numerous scholarships are available to athletes through the Department of Athletics. These scholarships are awarded based upon NCAA/SWAC regulations and criteria of the Department of Athletics.
* Army ROTC Scholarships:
The Army awards scholarships to students involved in the Army ROTC program on campus. They are available on a four, three, and two-year basis. The scholarship pays tuition, books, lab fees, selected academic expenses and $1,000 a year. The student will be commissioned as an Army officer upon receipt of the bachelor's degree.

III ASU FOUNDATION, INC. SCHOLARSHIPS

The Alcorn State University Foundation, Inc. administers a number of endowed scholarships, many of which have been established by family and friends in memory of beloved Alcornites or by faculty members. Students both graduate and undergraduate are able to apply based on the criteria for selection by the appropriate scholarship committee.

REQUIREMENTS:

1.- Financial Aid Awards are contingent upon admission as a regular student and enrollment at the University. A student may not be eligible for some types of financial aid, if not admitted as a regular, degree seeking student.
2.- Students are required to notify the Financial Aid Office of any additional financial aid received from sources outside ASU. Receipt of additional financial aid may result in an adjustment of the financial aid offered by ASU. Students receiving financial aid who find it necessary to add, drop or audit classes, have classes canceled, or do not begin attendance in any classes for which they are registered must notify the Financial Aid Office of such action immediately.
3.- Students must reapply for financial aid each academic year. Summer applications are available in the financial aid office if you plan to attend summer school.
4.- Students must submit a loan request form if applying for a William D. Ford Direct Loan. First time recipients of the William D. Ford Direct Loan must attend an entrance loan counseling session before funds can be disbursed. Students with a grade point average below 2.0 must make an appointment with the Default Prevention Coordinator before receiving a loan award.
