Local chapters - How to start a local committee in your city.
Would you like to connect with other Hispanic professionals and your city/area is not listed? Become an NSHP local Leader and organize your Local NSHP Committee!
Starting a local committee of the National Society for Hispanic Professionals is a great way to expand your network, meet fellow Hispanic professionals, promote NSHP in your area, and create opportunities for career growth. Organizing a local NSHP group is an easy, enjoyable and rewarding experience. All it takes is 6 people who are official members of NSHP and are willing to dedicate some time to making your committee a success. Aside from regular membership dues, there are no fees to start a local NSHP group.
We’ll even help you get the word out by searching our database and informing other members in your area about your plans. Just send us an email expressing your interest in creating a local group.
A Local NSHP Committee will enable you to:
- Participate more directly with the society’s activities and contribute to the direction of the national organization.
- Establish committee members as leaders in your local community and prepare them for national leadership positions with NSHP.
- Attract NSHP events and conferences to members at the regional and local levels.
- Bring educational and professional development opportunities to your area.
- Organize members to promote the goals of the Association locally.
- Expand your professional and personal network.
How to start a local committee in 6 easy steps
1. Recruit Founding Members. Find at least six individuals in your area who are interested in starting a Local Committee. Any individuals who aren’t already paid members should join through the NSHP Web site. Send an email to localcommittees@nshp.org if you need assistance with locating members in your area.
2. Identify Key Objectives. What is the main purpose of your committee? What specific goals will you focus on? What can your committee do for your community?
3. Hold Your First Meeting. Organize an orientation meeting with at least six NSHP members in attendance. Decisions should be made regarding the frequency, time and location of regular meetings, and the geographic coverage of your committee.
4. Apply for Committee Status. Send an email to localcommittees@nshp.org with the following information:
- Proposed Committee name (committees are named by geographic area served, ie: NSHP - Phoenix Committee).
- Committee location and the zip codes your group will include
- Name and Contact information for the leader or chairperson of your group
- Names and Contact information for your initial Committee members (minimum of 6 paid NSHP members)
5. Plan activities to attract members and support your objectives. Upon the acceptance of your request for committee status, you are free to plan activities such as networking events, luncheons, workshops, special guest speakers, and social assistance projects.
6. Promote your committee and its events. You will only attract new members and recognition for your group by getting the word out. Become active in the community and always inform the media of your meetings and events. While committees do not receive direct funding from NSHP, we will help you connect with our extensive network of partners to find advertising, sponsorships and other promotional opportunities.
Thank you for your interest in starting your own committee. We look forward to seeing your city added to the NSHP roster soon!
